Heart diseases are the most common cause of death worldwide. It accounts for about one-third of deaths. These diseases will increase with the increase of people. This info will help anyone to handle difficult events. The Basic Life Support Training consists of CPR and First Aid. Anyone can get basic knowledge and skills of basic life support training with this info. He/she can perform CPR and other first aid techniques. This info will tell the signs and symptoms of heart diseases. Like heart attack and other diseases attach with it. There are some other problems such as shock, choking and external bleeding. This info also tells to handle these problems.
Principles of basic life support training
Life nasty conditions are the first priority of care. AED can increase the chances of survival for someone in heart problem. There are other steps the rescuer can take to assist an ill after those conditions. If there is some serious problem then additional medical care can help out.
What does Basic life support training include?
Maintenance of tissue oxygen supply is vital for life. Keeping an open airway is a critical first step. When caring for a non-breathing person. Airway hurdle prevents oxygen delivery to our lungs. It prevents delivery to our blood and to tissues. When oxygen stops to pass then our organs will suffer and die. Brain may start dying after 4 to 6 minutes after this condition.
Helpers provide and maintain oxygen level. They supply chest compression to main blood flow. They give airings to set oxygen. Key steps in Basic life training support include:
- 1. Check for reaction and activate emergency medical services (EMS).
- 2. Quickly check for normal breathing.
- 3. If the patient is not breathing normally then provide chest compressions.
- 4. Open the airway and provide airing to deliver air to the lungs.
The goal of CPR is to provide blood flow to heart and brain. It helps the blood with oxygen to move in the body. If CPR delays then it damages to the organs. It may harm brain.
Duty of Care regarding Basic life support training
If you know basic life support method then you can provide medical care. There is no restriction to not give first aid. There are some areas where there is a need to notify higher people about medical care.
Ask a patient for permission before you provide care. First you can introduce yourself to a patient by name and say: “I am a first aid provider. May I help you?” if the patient give permission then go for otherwise don’t force care. If a person is not able to response then provide medical care.
Immediate Recognition and Activation of EMS
A quick action can help to find the medical problem. If the patient is not answering then call for help. The chance of life saving increases with this action. Call for help by yourself or tell any other one to call EMS. If you are alone then EMS will help you by using your cell phone to start CPR. This practice reduces the lost time and any delay in starting CPR. If you are not alone then tell someone to set EMS. In that time you can begin CPR. There are two scenarios when you can do CPR lonely.
- Child or infant victim
- Drowning victim
The above method is just to call for help by cell phone. The basic method is to use CPR before advanced medical care.
The lone helper should perform two minutes of CPR before calling for help. Heart arrest is naturally on secondary level. Breathing arrest is on first level in these two groups. Children and drowning patients may recover by CPR. In heart attacks often cause unstable heart rhythms. They respond best to rapid defibrillation. Call for help and use of defibrillator can provide best chance to maintain heart rhythm. If AED is not available then do CPR immediately.
Forget who is calling for help. The person should state the following:
- Caller’s name
- Number of patients
- Exact location
- call-back phone number
- Condition of the patient(s)
- What Happened?
- Care provided
Do not hang up until the caller releases you. It is important to answer all questions. The caller may find more info before ending the call. They get message and facts to deliver the team. If anyone calls for help then the caller should there to verify that help is on the way. The sooner you make the call will help to get advanced life support sooner.
Early CPR is important
Early CPR improves the chance of survival. Chest compression temporarily take over the function of the heart. It moves the blood in the body by manual method. Airing deliver air to the lungs and ensure a supply of oxygen for the body. It is basically for heart and brain to maintain their function.
Rapid defibrillation why is it important
The only fast method to set the heart rhythm is defibrillation. It provides the greatest chance of survival. CPR will not restart the heart. It may damage the tissues in short of oxygen. Most cases of adult breathe arrest are due to heart arrest. Heart arrest occurs due to problem in the beat known as ventricular fibrillation. This beat disturbance results in poor flow of blood to organs and it causes death.
It is very much important to defibrillate the heart arrest patient. Delays of as little as 7-10 minutes reduce the chance of survival.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support
CPR and defibrillation may not return a normal heart beat. In this case the advanced airway management tries to recover the patient. Somehow they try to set the patient by medical treatment. Advanced life support will help to make the patient normal and ready to take hospital. They do not help until the helper is not there for first aid.
After giving CPR and the heart beat become normal. There is still a work to do. Check and monitor the patient until help arrives. The irregular heart beat leads to death.
Emotional Stress and Fear of Doing Something Wrong
Helping others in need gives you a good feeling. It might also create emotional stress. It may be during and after the help. When there is something happening or any heart arrest. It is common that someone stands and waits to take charge and provide aid.
- fear of doing something wrong, causing harm or not being able to bring back life
- bother of being sued
- Fear of infection
There is a hard truth that CPR with advanced techniques does not recover the heartbeat. CPR increases the chances of survival but does not guarantee it.
The helpers who face fail in this field may have disturbed feelings. They blame themselves for not saving a life. They think that they did something wrong. Some helpers get benefit from different problems. They get experience and become professional in Basic life support training.
A key point to remember if you ever have to perform CPR is that a person in heart arrest is in the worst possible condition. If no one initiates CPR, someone in heart arrest is certain to die; you cannot make them any worse. CPR is a critical link in the chain of survival.
